Last night was one of the most significant nights for fashion, the 2013 Met Gala, referred to as the Oscars of the fashion world. The theme of the night was “Punk: Chaos to Couture” and celebrities and fashion designers rocked it out with elaborate headpieces, faux-hawks, and chic yet edgy gowns. It was exhilarating to see how each individual interpreted the “punk look’ and how it developed into a hodgepodge of styles. Here are some of our favorite looks:
Sarah Jessica Parker- Giles Deacon dress, Philip Treacy headpiece
SJP gets best dressed in our book as her avant-garde headpiece says everything. She resembled a punk Aztec goddess in her alluring graphic gown and plaid Christian Louboutin boots. Just like Carrie Bradshaw, she intrigues us with her unique choices and embodies the essence of fashion by taking risks.
Amber Heard- Emilio Pucci
Dripping in blood-red, Amber evoked a more romantic punk look. The sequins and sheer lace paired with her old Hollywood wavy hair oozed glamour.
Anne Hathaway- Valentino
The Les Miserables star surely impressed us with this early 90′s Valentino sheer and sexy gown. Coupled with a new platinum blonde sleek hairdo, Anne brought forth a gothic, yet elegant look.
Blake Lively- Gucci
This beautiful Gucci Première gown complete with a structured bodice and a gorgeous tiered black train was beyond flawless and sophisticated.
Minka Kelly-Carolina Hererra
Part punk-rock princess and part Greek goddess, Minka turned heads in this wonderfully ornate, brocade lace gown. The beading and sequins around the collar add a glistening effect and the indigo color is perfectly paired with her bold lip.
Kate Bosworth- Balmain
Although most women donned gowns, Kate daringly stepped out in this short, sequined and beaded Balmain ensemble. The oversized gold belt gave this look an extra “pop” of metallic and coincided with the hardware trend in the punk culture.
Queen B was one of the last stars to walk the red carpet in this show-stopping, strapless gown with a brilliant and scintillating train and matching thigh-high boots. She looked like fashion royalty and reinvented the concept of making a grand entrance. All Hail Queen B.
Rooney Mara- Givenchy
Rooney was an incandescent vision in this white, low-cut dress with lace details and strong shoulders. The dark purple lip stood out against her jet-black, tightly bound hair and illuminating gown.
Taylor Swift- J. Mendel
We applaud Taylor for her ever-evolving style as she transforms into a sophisticated fashion icon. This black cut-out, diamond coated gown fit her perfectly and left her looking quite dashing.
Uma Thurman- Zac Posen
Reminiscent of her Poison Ivy days on Batman, Uma looked absolutely dazzling in this fishtail gown, exuding utter magnificence and grandeur. Although she didn’t seem to get the “punk” memo, we still think it was beyond perfection.
